G.W. Carver did not meet growth during the 2016-2017 school year and has been classified as low-performing. For the last two years, the school exceeded growth. During the fall, Edgecombe County sponsored a district-wide training for administrators and instructional coaches for a coaching strategy called See it. Name it. Do it: Get Better, Faster. In this model, the observer selects the highest leverage area of improvement and provides targeted coaching to the teacher for that focus area. For my Problem of Practice, I chose to focus on the effectiveness of coaching in improving instruction and building teacher capacity. I, along with one of our instructional coaches, worked with the third grade team to provide coaching and instructional support.
